OIL PAINTS

Oils are a slow drying medium that offer vibrancy and pigmentation. Oils can be used on their own or applied to acrylic base coats. They blend easy and offer a smooth natural look.

PAINTS
Oil paints are pretty standard in terms of quality across the board. I personally prefer the Windsor & Newton Aritst's Colour. Gamblin is also a good brand. This limited palette can create all coat colours through mixing.

PALETTE
You will need a palette knife to mix colours. I prefer a short tipped one, but a longer tip may work better for you.
Palette Knife: amzn.to/4gdFLJc

You can use a glass sheet as a reusable palette. You can also use tin foil. If you want the paints to dry up faster, cardboard absorbs some of the oil.
Glass Cutting Board: amzn.to/4jkPtMR

Use a razor blade to scrape the palette clean when the paint has dried up.
Razor Blade : amzn.to/3PLrLf3

If you prefer to save your colours, cover and seal them in a wet palette. The glass cutting boards fit nicely in these.

Blue Shop Towels are lint free! Use them to clean your palette knife.

Use rubber gloves to avoid contact with the model during holds.

BRUSHES
You will need a variety of brushes for oil painting as they are not washed while working. Each brush should hold each different tone of colour.

Filbert Brushes : amzn.to/4g4DSP6
The best brushes for model painting are Filberts. Silver is a good brand in the US. I also like Royal Langnickel Zen brushes.
Sizes 1, 2, 4, 6

Mop Brushes : amzn.to/4h501y6
Use a 1" or 1/2" Mop to blend. You will need a couple of these! Princeton brand is the best.

MEDIUMS
Use Linseed oil to thin paints.
Refined Linseed Oil : amzn.to/42nML2S

Use Galkyd to thin and speed up drying.
Galkyd : amzn.to/4aua9hi
(store upside down in bright light once opened)

Use pipettes to pick up small quantities of the oil medium
