PASTELLING Pastels are a great tool to achieve realistic and rich colours. It is easy to achieve with a minimal tool kit. Pastels are dusted and brushed onto the model using soft brushes. Each layer of colour must be sealed to build up the layers of colour. _________________________________________________________________________________ SHOPPING LIST :

PIGMENT OPTIONS Pastels are often refereed to as 'soft' and can be purchased in a stick. These are like a high quality chalk that are easily blended on paper. For model horses, these should be shaved off into a powder and then brushed onto the model. This is an example of that. The more you spend, the higher the quality. Do NOT use Oil Pastels. Soft Pastel Sticks in Earth Tones: amzn.to/3E6cCCp Additionally Earth pigments are popular among some artists. These are already a powder and without a binder, they are naturally more pigmented. These are a compressed powder similar to an eyeshadow. I find them the most pigmented and require the least amount of layers. Though expensive, one tray lasts a very long time.
