Each drawing is done in charcoal with graphite detailing on 19x24" Bristol Board. This trio of drawings show the interaction of horse and human. The use of a horse in comparison to a dancer is to show a juxtaposition in beauty, grace and power. Both of these subjects also convey the ability to speak without words. My personal fascination with horses and the need for practice with the human figure led me to create these works. The use of charcoal creates a bold image that is very high in contrast. They are displayed in a row to be viewed from left to right, showing the progression of communication. The conventional ways for training and working with animals often relies on control and doesn’t engage in a mutual partnership. These works are meant to express, that an even more magical experience can occur if we step back and let the animals act under their own account.

I have always drawn horses, even at a very young age. Along with that I have created several characters that embody who I am as a person and help me express my utmost feelings. I took it upon myself to draw all 17 of theses characters in a completed, coloured form within 2015. Each horse took approximately 8-10 hours to complete, and they are done on card stock, lined in ink and coloured with Prismacolour pencil crayon.
